So I was rather hoping that the GP would say something like Oh that's just a harmless old cyst. Worry not, it'll go away by itself.
She didn't. She wants me to see a specialist urgently.
Luckily, through Mr SMs work I have private insurance, which means that instead of waiting two long weeks, I have an appointment on Wednesday (2 days from now).
You know the really annoying thing? She didn't even ask me how much I drink! I've been desperate to be asked that question by a medical professional and not have to lie!
So now I'm officially freaking out, and trying to keep the ship sailing along as usual so the children don't think anything's wrong. #1 is on half term this week, and they're all on half term next week.
Thank you all again for all your wonderful support.
SM x
That is brilliant news, and by that I mean that you are going to pretty much know in only two days. It's the wait that's killing you.
ReplyDeleteDon't fret because the doctor didn't say 'oh, that's a cyst'. There is NO WAY to manually differentiate cysts from tumours.
And if she had asked you how much you drink, you would have been forced to tell her that you used to drink a lot, even though you don't now.
In all likelihood you will have a nice half-term with the kids next week. Chin up!
I guess you have to do this "one day at a time". Sounds familiar? You have the whole blogging world praying for you!
ReplyDeleteYes, been thinking of you all weekend. Glad you have an appointment on Wednesday, which I'm sure still seems like an eternity away nonetheless. Easier said than done, I know, but try as much as you can to focus on Wednesday and not speculate too much beyond, otherwise it'll really drive you mad. Cyber hugs xx
ReplyDeleteOh no - I'm sorry - fingers crossed that they are just being good and making sure everything is checked out (and how fab for private medical insurance making things happen quickly)
ReplyDeleteHang on in there, you can do this
I'm really glad you have an appointment this week and don't have to wait longer. But dont worry unduly about the GP's reaction - she won't know anything more than you at this stage. Good luck on Wednesday, got everything crossed for you. X

ReplyDeleteYou'll be in my prayers. I hope everything goes well xx
ReplyDeleteAm glad you don't have a long wait. Keep breathing and keep busy. All this taking one hour/one day at a time has been good practise for these few days. Scary times but you are in my prayers too xxx
ReplyDeleteI can't add any more advice to the very sensible stuff that's been said already. So hugs from across the pond, and I'll be thinking of you this week xxxx
ReplyDeleteBaby steps SM. Wednesday will come and go before you know it. LNM x
ReplyDeleteWill be thinking of you. I think over-reaction(on the doc's part) better than under-reaction at this stage. And they are generalists, not specialists. The worst outcome would have been for them to dismiss your concerns. If you want a bit of distraction, I've just been billed for two nights in a hotel in Dresden that I didn't even stay in, because I was hacked off with the rest of the family one night several months ago, and - having drunk too much wine - booked a long weekend in Germany, flying to Berlin and having a couple of nights in Leipzig and Dresden. I woke up the next morning, thought "f**k" (as you do) and cancelled the flight free of charge as it was within 24 hours of booking. Cancelled the Leipzig hotel as it was with Marriott and had other bookings with them, so saw it when I logged on. But completely forgot about the Dresden one....
ReplyDeleteThinking of you. Praying for you. Chewing my nails for you. Kary
ReplyDeleteBig hugs. Xxx
